Croc attacks, kills fisherman in Palawan
(Updated 11:26 a.m.) A fisherman was killed after he was attacked by a large crocodile at a pier in Palawan province shortly before midnight Thursday.
The victim was initially identified as Rommel Siplan, 30, according to a report by RGMA Palawan's James Viernes on dzBB radio Friday morning.
Citing initial information reaching Coast Guard Palawan head Commodore Enrico Evangelista, Viernes reported the crocodile attacked Siplan while he was fishing in Bataraza town.
It reportedly dragged its victim by the stomach, the report added.
The victim's remains were recovered Friday morning.

A separate report by a GMA News stringer quoted the local barangay captain of Rio Tuba in Bataraza as saying the incident occurred at about 11 p.m. at the pier.
Philippine Navy personnel in the area were alerted to the incident when they sighted the victim's banca rocking, but with no one on board.
An investigation showed the banca had been tied to the victim's waist while he dived to gather sea cucumber.
But as the fisherman was doing so, the crocodile attacked and dragged him, making the banca move quickly even while no one was on board.
The Navy men who were observing the banca then saw the crocodile attacking the fisherman, then shot it. The shots prompted the crocodile to release the fisherman's body and move away. — Joel Locsin/LBG/KG, GMA News
