2 hurt as bridge falls in Calumpit

(UPDATED, 3:44 P.M.) Two people were reported hurt as a portion of a bridge under construction collapsed in Calumpit, Bulacan before noon Friday, police said.

 

Calumpit chief of police Superintendent Ophelio Concina, Jr. said the accident at Calumpit Bridge occurred at 10:37 a.m.

 

"May dalawang injury, ang operator ng crane natumba sa ilog at ang mason," Concina told dzBB radio.

 

A GMA News stringer report identified the crane operator as Robert Vidal, and the mason as Jerry David.

 

Both workers are now at Sta. Cruz Hospital, Concina said.

 

Asked why the portion of the bridge collapsed, Concina said, "mahina, luma na kasi masyado."

 

He said police have cordoned off the area to prevent further injuries. —NB, GMA News
