Magnitude-5.1 quake hits Sarangani area
A magnitude-5.1 quake shook the area near Sarangani province in Mindanao before dawn Monday, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 3:01 a.m., and was tectonic in origin.
In its initial bulletin, it said the epicenter was traced to 269 km southeast of Sarangani in the Davao Occidental area.
Phivolcs did not immediately cite areas where the quake was felt, and said there was no damage expected.
However, it said aftershocks are possible.
Meanwhile, a magnitude-4.5 quake was recorded off Surigao del Sur, three days after a magnitude-5.6 quake hit the area.
Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 3:21 a.m., with the epicenter at 95 km northeast of Cortes in Surigao del Sur.
No damage or aftershock was expected, Phivolcs added. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
