LTO exec: No closure of office in Cagayan de Oro City

The Land Transportation Office on Thursday assured motorists there is no closure of its district office in Cagayan de Oro City.

LTO Puerto OIC Engineer Jesus Chan belied a report that quoted him as saying the LTO regional office may lose up to P100 million in annual revenues due to the closure.

"There is totally no closure, at hindi totoo na maglo-lose ang LTO," Chan said in a phone interview, referring to a report by state-run Philippines News Agency last May 21.

The PNA report was the basis of an initial story posted on GMA News Online last May 23. The PNA report was not available from the PNA site as of June 2.

In its report, the PNA had said the LTO in Northern Mindanao announced the closure of its district office in Cagayan De Oro City as "part of the new registration process."

PNA quoted Chan as saying the LTO district office in Bugo, the last coastal village 8 km east of Cagayan De Oro City, would be closed effective May 23.

But Chan on Thursday said no one from the PNA interviewed him for that story.

He also said the LTO is not likely to incur losses since motorists in the region have to register their vehicles.

"Kahit anong angulong tingnan, hindi kami losing," he added. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
