Police arrest 2 suspects in Urbiztondo, Pangasinan mayor's murder

Two suspects in the murder of a Pangasinan town mayor on Saturday have been arrested, police said Sunday.

Ina  report on "24 Oras" aired Sunday evening, police said witnesses helped them arrest Eduardo de Guzman and Marito Sarmiento

De Guzman and Sarmiento are being held for the death of Urbiztondo Mayor Ernesto Balolong Jr., his aide and a civilian on Saturday morning.

"We are now in the process of conducting background investigation of the possible involvement of these suspects in other criminal cases in Pangasinan," Pangasinan police chief Senior Superintendent Sterling Raymond Blanco said.

The report said police also recovered the getaway vehicle in San Carlos City. An initial check showed the vehicle may have come from a car rental establishment.

Investigation by the Scene of the Crime Operations unit also showed the mayor was hit by at least 20 bullets.
