Pampanga most flood-prone; Benguet most landslide-vulnerable


Metro Manila is among the 10 most flood-prone areas in the country, while several areas in Northern Luzon are among the most susceptible to landslides, Department of Environment and Natural Resources data show.

GMA News Research, citing 2013 data from the DENR's Mines and Geosciences Bureau, noted Pampanga was the most prone to floods while Benguet was the most vulnerable to landslides.



The report said that of the 10 most flood-prone areas, Pampanga topped the list with a susceptibility of 79.54 percent. The nine others are: 

- Nueva Ecija, 51.20 percent
- Pangasinan, 48.12 percent
- Tarlac, 47.11 percent
- Maguindanao, 42.52 percent
- Bulacan, 39.85 percent
- Metro Manila, 33.16 percent
- Cotabato, 30.09 percent
- Mindoro Oriental, 28.65 percent
- Ilocos Norte, 27.9 percent

Meanwhile, the top 10 landslide-prone areas included:

- Benguet, 90.3 percent
- Mountain Province, 87.1 percent
- Nueva Vizcaya,  86.7 percent
- Kalinga-Apayao, 84.7 percent
- Southern Leyte, 82.6 percent
- Abra, 82.1 percent
- Marinduque, 78.6 percent
- Cebu, 77.6 percent
- Catanduanes, 77.4 percent
- Ifugao, 77.3 percent
