‘Graduating’ Lapid registers as Angeles City voter, may seek local post

Senator Lito Lapid has transferred his voter's registration to Angeles City, where he may seek a local post in 2016, his media liaison confirmed Friday.

Alex Marcelino, Lapid's media relations officer, said the senator transferred his voter's registration records because he changed his residence from Porac town to a new house in Angeles City.

Asked if the transfer of voter's registration has something to do with Lapid's plans for the 2016 elections, Marcelino said it was only "coincidence."

Marcelino however admitted that it is "possible" for the actor-turned-senator to seek a local post, or even run for congressman in 2016.

Porac town is in the Second District of Pampanga, which is represented by Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Angeles City, meanwhile, is in the First District.

"Maraming kumakausap sa kanya [Lapid] from different sectors na gusto siyang tumakbo roon," Marcelino said.

He, however, ruled out the possibility of Lapid running for Pampanga governor, a post that he held before becoming a senator.

Lapid was first elected a senator in 2004 and is on his second term at the Senate. Under the Constitution, senators may only serve two consecutive terms. — Andreo Calonzo/JDS, GMA News
