Hazing victim names more suspects in Servando's death
One of the survivors of the fraternity hazing that led to the death of 18-year-old De La Salle-College of St. Benilde student Guillo Cesar Servando has spoken up and has identified at least 10 members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity as suspects.
In a sworn statement submitted to the Makati City Police, hazing survivor John Paul Raval said he, Servando, Lorenze Agustin and a certain Flores, who is a minor, met up with the members of the Tau Gamma Phi-College of St. Benilde Chapter in a fastfood chain near DLSU.
Raval said they stayed there from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. before heading in a cab to a frat house in Brgy. Palanan in Makati, where the initiation rites were held.
“The initiation rites was started around 6:00 p.m. and lasted until about 9:00 p.m. During initiation he (Raval), Flores, Agustin and Servando were subjected to severe mental and physical punishment, they were hit, whipped and harshly flogged mostly on their legs by the TGP members using belts and wooden paddle,” a portion of the sworn affidavit, a copy of which was obtained by GMA News, said.
Among the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity members identified by Raval as the ones who conducted the initiation rite were:
- Cody Morales, who was identified as the head or Lord Grand Triskelion
- Pope Bautista, secretary
- Trex Garcia
- Hans Tamaring
- Alias Navoa
- Alias Rey Jay
- Alias Mike
- Alias Kurt
- Alias Louie
- Alias Emeng, master initiator
Raval said that after the intitiation rites, Tamaring and Garcia brought him and the three other neophytes to his condo unit at One Archer's Place in Taft Avenue, Manila, but left them after a few attempts to revive Servando who passed out a few minutes after their arrival.
Raval said this left him and the two other neophytes to call Emergency 117 past 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Earlier reports said Servando was already dead when found by the authorities.
Meanwhile, the Makati Police said they are waiting for the sworn affidavits of the two other survivors who are still recuperating in the hospital before they file charges against the suspects.
Makati Police chief Senior Supt. Manuel Lukban Jr. said that as of now, they cannot determine whether informant Jomar Pajarito, who identified himself as the caretaker of the frat house where the initiation rite was held, will be considered a witness or a suspect.
“Baka mamaya ma-divert ang ating attention sa kanyang sasabihin na magiging kontra sasasabihin ng ating mga victim. Dapat bago ko siya pakinggan, mapakinggan ko muna, malaman ko muna ang direct statements ng ating mga victims. Sila ang vital witnesses,” Lukban said in an interview aired on GMA News' “24 Oras” Thursday.
In an earlier statement to the Makati Police, Pajarito said around 13 members of Tau Gamma Phi fraternity arrived at the frat house on Saturday together with the four neophytes. He said the intitiation rites were conducted in the backyard.
'Not fast enough'
“As a father of a child that got killed, frankly, para sa'kin it's not fast enough,” Servando's father, Aurelio, said.
He also called on the members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity: “If they will come forward, approach us and express their sympathy, and if they will help us in the resolution of this case, we are willing to meet with them.”
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) head Director Leonardo Espina meanwhile appealed for understanding from the families of the victims, especially from the Servandos.
“Soon magkakaroon ng resolution yan. Kasi this is one case which needs yung detailed collation of all evidence to effectively prosecute those responsible,” he said.
The Bureau of Immigration is already checking its records to make sure that the named suspects are still in the country, the “24 Oras” report said. — Elizabeth Marcelo/JDS, GMA News
