Gumaca warden sacked for jailbreak
The warden of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Gumaca, Quezon was relieved from his post following the escape of eight inmates before dawn Tuesday.
Jail Inspector Efren Barretto of the BJMP Gumaca district jail has been relieved of his duty, GMA News stringer Peewee Bacunio reported on dzBB radio Tuesday afternoon.
Eight inmates had escaped from the BJMP facility in Gumaca, though one of them had been recaptured.
The dzBB report said initial investigation showed there was no power at the BJMP facility at the time of the escape, though a generator was being used to provide temporary power.
Investigators believe the inmates exploited the noise from the generator to saw off the metal bars of one of the windows and escape. —NB, GMA News
