16-foot croc caught in Palawan
Another large crocodile was caught this time in Batarasa in the province of Palawan, a report on GMA News' “24-Oras” said on Wednesday.
The crocodile, which measured 16 feet, got stuck in a mangrove tree and was subsequently subdued with a rope used by nearby residents.
The residents said they first noticed the presence of the crocodile in their area after a banging sound was heard around their houses.
Meanwhile, authorities are trying to determine whether the crocodile was responsible for the death of a fisherman who was viciously attacked last May.
The crocodile will be brought to the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center in Puerto Princesa City.
Last May, a 7.5-foot crocodile named Malang was released back into the wild at the Liguasan marsh in North Cotabato after being held in captivity for almost a month.
So far, the 21-foot, 1,075-kilogram Lolong remains the largest crocodile caught in the Philippines and the world after it was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Lolong was caught last 2011 in Agusan del Sur but died in February 2013 from complications brought about by his captivity. —Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
