2 robbers take P500,000 from money changer

Police in Bacolod City are now tracking down two robbers who made off with P500,000 after holding up a money changer shop in broad daylight Wednesday.

The robbery occurred at Barangay 39 in Bacolod City, according to a report by GMA Bacolod's Erwin Nicavera.

Police are looking to analyze closed-circuit television footage of the incident, which showed the robbers escaping in a red Asian utility vehicle without license plates.

Cashier Grace Buenaflor said the two men poked handguns at them and threatened to harm them if they did not give them the shop's money.

"Nasa loob ako, katatapos lang namin mag-almusal. Naghuhugas ako ng plato. Akala ng isa kong kasamahan, magpapalit. Pagkatapos nang lumabas siya, bigla na lang tinulak ang pinto at pumasok sila, tinutukan nila ang kasama ko," Buenaflor said.

The report said the robbers managed to enter the shop easily as there was no security guard there.

A separate report on Visayan Daily Star Thursday said one of the men was described as wearing a jacket and sunglasses, and the other was wearing a checkered polo shirt and ball cap.

Investigators suspect the robbers had been conducting surveillance on the shop for some time.

Duty investigator PO3 Johnny dela Peña said the robbers fled esat then headed toward the Osmeña area.

Dela Peña said they have obtained a list of car rental establishments in the city, to trace the getaway vehicle. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
