Electrical problem causes scare on Ormoc-bound fast craft

An electrical problem caused a scare among passengers on a fast craft bound for Leyte from Cebu on Sunday.

The MV St. Baraquiel, a fast craft of 2GO Shipping encountered the problem at the Mactan Channel, about 30 minutes after leaving Pier 4 of Cebu, GMA Cebu's Alan Domingo reported.

All 147 passengers of the vessel were transferred to other fast craft of 2GO Shipping.

Meanwhile, the affected vessel was eventually allowed to leave port after the problem was fixed.

"Natakot kami kasi tumutunog ang alarma nila sa sunog, akala namin may sunog," said passenger Jerome Sanchez.

Lito Salvio, general manager of 2GO Shipping, said it was "just a minor problem."

For his part, Coast Guard Cebu station head Commander Rodolfo Villajuan said all passengers were safe, "and all tickets will be refunded." — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
