Iloilo cops hold drills vs. ‘riding-in-tandem’ crimes

To help neutralize so-called riding-in-tandem crimes, police in Iloilo City are holding dragnet simulations and drills to intercept such motorcycle-based robbers.

Western Visayas deputy regional director for operations Senior Superintendent Marietto Valerio said this will let them make adjustments in curbing such crimes, GMA Iloilo reported.

Valerio said the drills will give them an idea of what to do when a "riding-in-tandem" crime occurs, usually involving men riding a motorcycle and snatching valuables from pedestrians or bystanders.

He said police at the stations nearest the incident should act in three minutes.

Such crimes are expected to increase during the -ber months as residents prepare for the holidays.

According to Valerio, they are also looking for ways to speed up the reporting process so police can be informed of such crimes more quickly.

In Thursday's drill, police simulated a robbery incident at Jalandoni Street, with the police issuing a "flash alarm" against the suspects' motorcycle.
