Suspected cop killer killed, at least 2 cops wounded in Bohol encounter — report

A suspected killer of a policeman was gunned down while at least two policemen were wounded in an encounter in Bohol province Saturday night, a radio report said.

Killed in the encounter in Barangay Tabajan in Guindulman town in Bohol was Artemio Tare Jr. a.k.a. Bigeon Tare, according to a report on Bombo Radyo.

The report quoted Bohol provincial police information officer Superintendent Pacifico Yape Jr. as saying the incident occurred at a checkpoint in the area at about 9:15 p.m.

Tare was linked to the killing of PO1 Micheal Ejoc in a recent anti-drug operation.

An investigation showed that during the checkpoint operation, PO1 Joel Bayron and PO1 Jeremias Platino inspected a passenger bus the suspect was riding.

The suspect allegedly fired at them, triggering a shootout that wounded Bayron and Platino. Other police personnel rushed to the area to back up the two police officers.

Some 30 other passengers of the bus were not injured.

Recovered from the scene were two handguns and two sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu). — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
