11 hurt as floor of school building gives way in Naga City

At least 11 people were reported injured after the flooring of a building at an elementary school in Naga City in Camarines Sur gave way Thursday afternoon.

This corrects an earlier report that 40 were injured in the collapse.

The incident occurred at the Gabaldon Building of the Sta. Cruz Elementary School between 4 and 4:30 p.m., GMA Bicol's Michael Biando reported.

Citing initial information, the report said the injured included 10 parents and one students. They suffered minor injuries and were brought to the Naga City Hospital.

New principal Adelina Denido was surprised as she thought the building was newly renovated.

The room where the incident occurred is considered the oldest structure in the school. A teacher was quoted in the report as saying the flooring there may have already been defective.

The Department of Education will return to the site to investigate the incident. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
