Courier firm’s Cebu City outlets without guards ordered closed
The Cebu City government on Friday ordered the closure of a courier firm's outlets that still do not have security guards, as it cited recent robberies targeting the establishments.
City Mayor Mike Rama issued the order on outlets of LBC after personally inspecting some of the firm's branches, GMA Cebu's Nikko Sereno reported.
As of Friday, GMA News Cebu said a random check of several outlets of the firm in the city showed they had security guards.
LBC area head Engineer Sherwin Navarro said they understand the recommendation of the mayor and are deploying security guards.
Rama ordered city attorney Jerone Castillo to prepare the closure order, and city administrator Dr. Lucelle Mercado to implement it.
Exempted from the closure order are outlets of the courier firm that are inside malls.
Rama said he met Thursday night with officials of LBC, who he said asked him not to push through with his closure plan.
But he said he would push through with it due to recent robbery incidents in LBC outlets, especially those that lacked guards or had non-working closed-circuit television equipment. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
