Cebu City placed under state of calamity
Cebu City was placed under a state of calamity, in the wake of heavy rain from the trough or extension of Tropical Storm Mario (Fung-Wong).
State-run Philippine Information Agency said the city council held a special session at 2 p.m. to take up the matter.
Following the session, the council declared a state of calamity to allow the mobilization of funds for relief and repair work.
Several parts of Cebu had recorded floods, landslides and rockslides during the heavy rain that fell since Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, a group of Cebuanos has set up a Google Map for flood-prone areas in Cebu.
Earlier in the day, floods reached waist level in Mandaue City, prompting the evacuation of several residents.
Areas in Mandaue like Tipolo, Rolling Hills, Tita Guapa, and Plaridel Street were not passable due to waist-deep waters. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
