HERMOSA, Bataan — Heavy rains in the afternoon of Friday caused by the Southwest Monsoon induced by storm Mario flooded five barangays in three towns in Bataan Saturday.
Barangay Almacen in Hermosa town was inundated by knee- to waist-deep floods while a portion of barangay Mabatang, Abucay town experienced knee-deep flash floods.
“Wala namang baha kahapon (Thursday), nagsimulang bumaha kagabi,” Gertrudez Cabantog, 55, said while walking on the flooded road from Almacen to Daungan, another village in Hermosa.
Villagers in Almacen either walk or ride motorized bancas, called tora-tora.
Almacen was dry Thursday and Friday after being hit by chest-deep floods Sunday night to Wednesday during the onslaught in the Luzon area of the Habagat strengthened by Typhoon Luis.
Barangays Balon Anito, Ipag, and San Isidro in Mariveles town experienced knee- to chest-deep floods Friday night, but these subsided Saturday morning.
The municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that 47 families of about 235 individuals spent Friday night in evacuations centers in Mariveles but were back home early morning of Saturday. — Ernie Esconde/VC, GMA News
