Cebu provincial hospital’s new operating room to benefit 4 towns

Residents of four towns in Cebu stand to benefit from the first operating room of the Cebu Provincial Hospital Danao, which opened on Tuesday.

The Cebu provincial government said the CPH in Danao is the second unit to open its operating room after the CPH in Carcar.

"It accommodates patients from the town including the neighboring towns of Liloan, Compostela and Carmen," it said.

Last September 15, the Cebu provincial government said the CPH Carcar can now perform major surgical operations including such as caesarian operation, thyroidectomy, appendectomy, myomectomy, and modified radical mastectomy.

This was five months after it was upgraded to level one.

“(W)e can reduce the overwhelming number of patients brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) from Carcar and other neighboring towns,” said Governor Hilario Davide III.

He added that while the hospital has only visiting surgeons for now, he voiced hopes the provincial government can soon hire permanent surgeons for the provincial hospital.

Cebu Provincial Hospital-Carcar Chief Dr. Olivia Dandan said the hospital has medical specialists who completed clinical training in a specific area of medicine in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Cebu City Medical Center.

She said they are planning to upgrade the hospital to level II by next year so they can operate their intensive care unit (ICU) facility.

“In fact, we already have an ICU bed and ICU room. Only a few more equipment are needed so we can operate,” said Dandan. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
