Kin of trainee who died from electrocution to pursue charges vs. Coast Guard
Relatives of a Philippine Coast Guard trainee who was found dead last week in Indang town in Cavite are inclined to pursue legal action against the Coast Guard.
The family of Daryl Mojica said the Coast Guard may be liable for the death due to negligence, GMA News' Dante Perello reported on GMA News TV's News to Go.
This is even if the Coast Guard's internal investigation and autopsy show no foul play in Mojica's death. Mojica died weeks before the Coast Guard's Recognition Day.
"So kung walang nangyaring foul play, so be it. Ibig sabihin walang nanakit, walang ganito. But still, kung ang nangyari ay naaksidente siya, nakuryente, meron pa ring negligence," said Mojica's aunt Elma Penales.
Mojica's relatives arrived at the decision after meeting with lawyers.
Also, Mojica thanked the Coast Guard for its assistance but said it is after justice and not financial aid.
"Gusto ho namin malinaw, hindi kami naghahabol doon. Hindi kami after doon. After kami sa kung ano ang totoo, kung sino ang dapat managot at magkaroon ng katuturan ang nangyari sa kanya," Penales said. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
