20 Peñafrancia devotees rescued from fluvial procession mishap -Coast Guard


At least 20 devotees of Our Lady of Peñafrancia were rescued after two motor boats collided during a fluvial procession in honor of the patroness last Sunday.
 
The Philippine Coast Guard said Tuesday the incident occurred at the procession in Barangay Poblacion in Rapu-Rapu town in Albay.
 
It said the 20 rescued passengers are residents of Purok 6, Barangay Poblacion, Rapu-Rapu, Albay. It identified them as:
 
- Celeste Banaynal, 34, owner of the sunken motor banca
- July Mogas, boat captain,
- Ian Banaynal, 15
- Irish Banaynal, 10
- Ives Banaynal, 12
- Arjay Acosta, 16
- Kirby Azotea, 12
- Francia Orcena, 38
- Arnil Orcena, 45
- Francine Orcena, 9
- Susan Villanueva, 35
- Aira Villanueva
- Iram Villanueva
- Irene Dario
- Roberson Dario
- Aldrin Dario
- Randy Dario
- Rodolfo Dario
- Edrian Dario
- Lowie Banaynal
 
 
Our Lady of Peñafrancia is considered the patroness of the Bicol region.
 
More than 500,000 devotees in Naga City alone took part in the Traslacion, a procession through the streets of the city in honor of the patroness, on Sept. 12. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
