Flood, high tide pose problem for early visitors to Dagupan cemetery
A combination of flood waters from recent cyclones and the high tide threaten to pose a problem for residents of Dagupan City planning to pay their respects to their dearly departed.
The flood waters are still affecting parts of the Roman Catholic Cemetery in the city, GMA Dagupan's Jeesson Alamar reported on Monday.
Work has begun to clean up the cemetery in anticipation of residents who may want to pay their respects to their departed loved ones ahead of All Saints' and All Souls' Days.
"Hindi pa po kasi natatabunan 'yung likod. Doon po talaga 'yung may tubig parati," said Romulo Soriano, one of those cleaning up the cemetery.
Pangasinan is one of the areas affected by Tropical Storm Mario (Fung-Wong) when it pounded parts of the country last September.
The St. John Cathedral plans to raise the level of the cemetery as a long-term solution.
"Hindi pwede 'yung band-aid solution lang, kasi 'pag pinataasan mo 'yung likod, babahain ang harap," St. John Cathedral spokesperson Fr. Alvin Gerald Platon said. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
