Bulacan town deputy police chief survives ambush

A deputy police chief of a town in Bulacan province survived an ambush by four armed men Wednesday evening.

Senior Inspector Leo dela Rosa was grazed in the head by a bullet during the ambush at Barangay Tarcan in Baliuag town, GMA News' Oscar Oida reported on "Unang Balita."

Dela Rosa is the deputy police chief of San Rafael town.

He said he was driving along Barangay Tarcan when four men aboard a tricycle ambushed him.

"Nakasakay po sila sa tricycle, at nung masalubong ko sila lumundag ang backrider ng tricycle at walang habas ako pinutukan subali't ako naman nakaganti ng putok," he said.

While he tried to return fire, he lost control of his car, which fell into a creek.

The suspects fled and dela Rosa was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment. Dela Rosa said the ambush may have been work-related.

"Kung sa katulad ko pong isang alagad ng batas di nila kinatatakutan gaano pa po ang mga pangkaraniwang mamamayan natin na pangkaraniwan walang laban," he said. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
