Health concerns raised over hospital waste water in Laoag rice fields
Residents of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte have raised health concerns over the alleged dumping of waste water from the dialysis facility of a local hospital into nearby rice fields.
The Ilocos Norte Power Consumers Association (INCASSO) said the water from the tanks of the Laoag City General Hospital, GMA Ilocos reported.
"Health natin ang nakasalalay kaya yun ang ipinaglalaban ko," INCASSO president Roger Fariñas said.
But the report said the hospital maintained it has a waste water treatment facility that "cleans" the water before it is released to the river.
INCASSO also brought its complaint before the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Provincial environment officer Juan delos Reyes Jr. said he has written the regional director to send a team to assess the complaint. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
