1 dead, 11 hurt as truck, prime mover figure in Cebu bridge mishap

At least one person was killed while 11 were injured following an accident involving an Elf-type truck and a prime mover in Mandaue City in Cebu on Wednesday.

 

The incident occurred at the Marcelo Fernan Bridge Wednesday morning, as the two vehicles were heading toward Lapu-Lapu City, GMA Cebu's Bexmae Jumao-as reported Thursday.

 

Killed was the owner of the Elf-type truck, initially identified as Erlinda Caburnay. She died hours after the accident, which caused heavy traffic in the area.

 

Investigation showed a multi-cab overtook the Elf-type truck, and the prime mover also tried to overtake it.

 

But the prime mover driven by Emiliano Quingco hit the Elf-type truck's rear and caused it to hurtle toward the concrete separator and to the opposite lane.

 

"Naharangan na kami kasi ang daanan namin ng mga nag-overtake kaya tinamaan na ang gilid ng aming sasakyan," said prime mover helper Raymond Degamo.


 

 

Traffic investigator PO3 Melvin Leones said Quingco may be liable because he tried to overtake the Elf-type truck and hit it.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
