Albay authorities map Undas plans for residents’ security in Mayon danger zone

Authorities in Albay province are mapping security plans for residents whose dearly departed are buried inside the danger zone around restive Mayon Volcano.

This is part of the planning by the Philippine National Police's Bicol regional office for Undas (All Saints' and All Souls' Days), radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.

While authorities want to respect the residents' rights to pay respects to their departed loved ones at Undas, they also want to ensure their safety should Mayon erupt, the report added.

Bicol regional police head Chief Superintendent Victor Diona said they will coordinate with the Army's 901st Brigade and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on the Undas plans.

More than 12,000 families had been evacuated from the danger zone around Mayon since Phivolcs raised the alert level there to "3."

Under Alert Level 3, an eruption is possible within weeks. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
