Calls mount for resignation of Cam Norte gov
Calls are mounting for the resignation of Camarines Norte Governor Edgardo Tallado, in the wake of a scandal involving an alleged extra-marital affair.
Tallado also faces possible suspension over the incident, GMA News' Ian Cruz reported on GMA News TV's "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho" Thursday night.
"Ang panawagan ko kay Pareng Egay, gamitin niya ngayon ang kanyang talino sa tamang paraan, huwag sa maling paraan na magbibigay kahihiyan hindi lang sa taga-Camarines Norte kundi sa masang Pilipino," said former Governor Roy Padilla Jr.
Provincial board member Senen Jerez also called for Tallado's resignation, saying his could be a case of moral corruption.
"Ang corruption na sinasabi natin, hindi ito pera lang na corruption. Sinasabi nating corruption dito ay yung dangal ng ating kababaihan. I think he has to resign," he said. "And he has to resign kasi there is no more basis for him to continue his office. Wala nang moral ground."
Tallado has yet to comment on such calls for his resignation.
Earlier this week, Tallado apologized for the scandal but threatened to go after those spreading photos of him with another woman.
The scandal surfaced after Tallado's wife Josie disappeared earlier this month but surfaced after nearly a week, and claimed the problem stemmed from the alleged affair.
On the other hand, a death threat signed "Gov" was found in the house of Mrs. Tallado's aide Darlene Francisco.
The report said Mrs. Tallado was prepared to reconcile with the governor, for the sake of their children and grandchildren.
But she said the governor had to show remorse and promise not to do it again.
"Everyone wants a family that is not broken, if possible mag-reconcile. Pag nag-reconcile siyempre kasama riyan acceptance of infiddelity and a genuine apology and remorse yung promise not to do it again," said Mrs. Tallado's lawyer Lorna Kapunan.
For its part, the Civil Service Commission said Tallado could face a suspension of six months to one year if Mrs. Tallado filed a formal complaint against him.
CSC chairman Francisco Duque III said such issues may suggest a "question of disgraceful and immoral conduct."
"Kung local chief executive ka, you have to be the model and exemplar of proper conduct, professional conduct," Duque said. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
