Baby found tied up, abandoned in Davao City house

A 10-month-old baby boy was rescued over the weekend from the house of his father in Davao City, after neighbors found him abandoned and crying inside.

Concerned neighbors rescued and brought the boy to the Sta. Ana police precinct in Davao City, GMA Davao's Donna Timbal-Senajon reported on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon."

The boy was alone inside the house at Barangay 25-C and was found lying on the floor with his left foot tied up. His body bore many insect bites, the report said.

"Dalawang araw daw nila na-obserbahan na nakatali ang paa ng bata, yung left foot niya. So, nung on the second day nakita nila ... nagiyak-iyak ang bata, tiningnan nila at nakitang nakatali. So, naawa sila kaya kinuha yung bata at dinala rito," said Sta. Ana police precinct head Superintendent Royina Garma.

Relatives of the boy's father could not say where he was.

Initial police investigation showed the father took the boy from the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Reception and Study Center for Children after he and his live-in partner separated.

The police have since returned the child to the DSWD.

Garma said they are considering filing charges against both parents for child abuse. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
