Food poisoning cases prompt ‘ban’ on salted eggs in Pangasinan City
A rise in food poisoning cases has prompted a temporary ban on salted eggs in San Carlos City in Pangasinan province.
City authorities inspected markets and advised the public to avoid buying salted eggs, GMA Dagupan's Jasmin Gabriel reported on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon" Wednesday.
The report said that as of this week, at least 21 had been taken ill due to suspected food poisoning from eating salted eggs.
Among the latest patients were two children hospitalized last Monday.
San Carlos City health officer Dr. Edwin Guinto said he voiced concern over the situation.
"Kahit isa, kasi ang 20 mag-uumpisa sa isa yan. Pag di mo nagawan ng remedyo ng kaukulang remedyo, ang isa, dalawa, magiging 20. Ang 20 pag di ka gumawa ng mga measures magiging 50 yan hanggang 100," he said.
But Dr. Policarpio Manuel, chief of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital, said the situation is under control.
Investigation showed the victims bought eggs from the local market, while the City Health Office learned the vendors' supplier was from San Manuel town.
Health officials are now investigating a possible connection between the latest food poisoning cases and some cases in Sta. Maria town.
In the meantime, health authorities are tightening their watch over the sale of salted eggs, which is temporarily banned in the city. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
