Human head, leg found in tiger shark captured in Bohol Sea
A half-digested human head and leg were found inside the belly of a tiger shark caught by fishermen in the Bohol Sea last week, news site MindaNews reported Tuesday.
“It was so disgusting. We can’t bear the awful smell [when we opened the shark's belly],” said fishermen Bodoy Gorgod, 48.
Gorgod said they eventually thew the 300-kilo shark and the human remains overboard, except for the shark's head and fins, as they feared they would “bring bad luck." There was thus no opportunity for authorities to identify the human remains.
Meanwhile, the wife of another of the fishermen wanted the shark jaw to be thrown away as well, fearing the soul of the eaten person would haunt them.
The report also said that, according to the Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines, five shark species were considered threatened: the whale shark, oceanic whitetip shark, scalloped hammerhead shark, great hammerhead shark, and the smooth hammerhead shark. — Joel Locsin/DVM, GMA News
