Authorities in Bacolod on lookout vs. fake credit cards as holidays draw closer

As the holidays draw closer and the Christmas shopping begins to peak, authorities are on alert not just for fake bills but also for fake credit cards.

In Bacolod City, police arrested a 30-year-old woman who bought several gadgets at a mall, GMA Bacolod's Erwin Nicavera reported.

This was after vigilant employees at the mall found the woman was using fake credit cards.

Recovered from the woman, who racked up P200,000 in purchases, were 11 credit cards and one automated teller machine card with one name but with several account numbers.

According to the woman, she bought the cards from an "agent" in Metro Manila, and insisted the cards were genuine.

Police said the woman violated Republic Act 8484, an act regulating the issuance and use of access devices and prohibiting fraudulent acts.

Meanwhile, investigators are looking into possible links the woman may have with a syndicate using fake credit cards. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
