Military captures Abu Sayyaf camp in Basilan

Joint Task Group Basilan captured an Abu Sayyaf Group hideout in Sumisip town in Basilan on Sunday morning, Western Mindanao Command reported on Monday evening.

According to WestMinCom's public information office, the camp was discovered by the military, in coordination with the local civilian volunteers organization, during clearing operations in the area.

Security forces found "10 nipa huts with fortified trenches and foxholes", homemade shotguns, ammunition, and explosives. Also recovered from the camp were a solar charger, a wet cell battery, and "subversive documents".

The camp was found after a firefight with an undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf members earlier that morning. Five members of the ASG were reported killed in the fighting while there were no casualties on the government side. — JDS, GMA News
