TD Queenie leaves fisherman missing, causes waist-deep floods in Cebu


A fisherman is missing while waist-level floods were reported in parts of Cebu in the wake of heavy rain brought by Tropical Depression Queenie.
 
Strong winds and heavy rain from Queenie also felled several trees in Cebu and caused power outages in Bohol province.
 
The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Oslob was the most affected town, with many trees felled, though roads are passable after clearing operations.
 
It said one fisherman, identified as Celesiano Looc, 45, of Barangay Caseres, was missing. He was last seen 3 p.m. Wednesday fishing around Oslob seas.
 
 
 

In Argao town in Cebu, residents of Barangays Cansuje, Mabasa and other landslide-prone areas were evacuated to Cerge Remonde Sports and Cultural Center.
 
Waist-level floods hit Malabuyoc town, with residents evacuated to the town hall and elementary school.
 
Affected barangays in Malabuyoc include Sto. Niño, Looc, Lumbo, and Sorsogon.
Two PDRRMO teams were to head to Cebu South at 10 a.m. Thursday to conduct rescue and clearing operations as well as damage and needs assessment.
 
Bohol
 
In Bohol, state-run Philippine Information Agency said power outages hit parts of the province since Wednesday night.
 
Jagna town was hit by a power outage at 9 p.m. Wednesday and experienced "very strong" winds.
 
Residents in coastal barangays in Jagna were evacuated, even as heavy rain was also noted in Cortes town.
 
Elsewhere in Cebu, some 200 passengers heading for San Carlos City in Negros Occidental from Toledo City were stranded after the Coast Guard suspended boat trips late Wednesday.
 
Heavy rain, floods over mindanao areas
 
In Davao City, GMA Davao's Julius Pacot reported many areas were flooded due to heavy rain from Queenie Wednesday evening.
 
Many roads in the city were flooded.
 
Rain poured on Tandag City in Surigao del Sur Wednesday, GMA Davao's Helen Quiñanola reported. Queenie had made landfall in Tandag City in surigao del Sur.
 
The Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council was placed on alert for possible floods.
 
In Surigao City, heavy rain and strong winds pounded the area Wednesday. The streets were virtually deserted by evening due to the bad weather.
 
While there was no reported flooding, the city's emergency response teams remained on alert.
 
In Cagayan De Oro City, Wednesday's rain flooded some areas including Barangay Carmen.
 
Families in Barangay Macasandig evacuated and stayed at Macasandig Elementary School and a covered court.
