Walang Pasok: Classes up to high school suspended in Iloilo City

Afternoon classes in Iloilo City were suspended Thursday amid bad weather conditions from Tropical Depression Queenie.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog posted the announcement on his Facebook page before noon Thursday.

"(I) declare the suspension of classes in all elementary and secondary (high school) levels for both public and private schools in the afternoon of today November 27, 2014," he said.

He added classes for the college level will depend on the school heads.

On the other hand, Mabilog said water levels at the Iloilo River and creeks are still within normal levels.

All roads and bridges are passable and no evacuees had been reported, he added.

But he cited information indicating Queenie is gaining strength and "may hit ground" Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, classes were suspended in several areas in Central Visayas and Mindanao due to Queenie.

It made landfall on Surigao del Sur Wednesday evening and crossed the Visayas early Thursday. It may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
