Coast Guard rescues crew of stricken ferry off Camiguin

The Philippine Coast Guard on Wednesday rescued the crew of a passenger-cargo vessel that sank off Balbagon in Camiguin.

The Coast Guard said Thursday that the MV Super Shuttle Ferry 11 was siphoning seawater from its grounded sister ship MV Super Shuttle Ferry 15 when it began to list.

As the ship listed, its officers and crew abandoned ship.

A Coast Guard Special Operations Unit rescued all the vessel's officers and crew. The Coast Guard also laid a spill boom around the distressed vessel to prevent an oil spill.

It also directed the vessel's owner, Asian Marine Transport Corp., to tap a registered salvor company to retrieve  the submerged Super Shuttle Ferry 11.

The Coast Guard also advised the vessel's master to submit a marine protest regarding the incident. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
