38 families evacuated from Antipolo residential area due to landslide fears

Some 38 families were evacuated from a residential area in Antipolo City shortly before midnight Friday due to fears of a landslide in the area.

The fears at a part of Barangay Dalig stemmed from the water coming from a burst pipeline of concessionaire Manila Water.

A report on dzBB radio early Saturday said the families were brought to a local chapel.

An initial investigation showed some residents noticed water seeping out of the road, and feeling the ground move shortly after 11 p.m. Friday.

Some said they saw water coming out of some parts of the road, suggesting that an underground pipeline may have burst.

City disaster management office head Joey Marco said the residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

Local authorities are also not discounting the possibility heavy trucks heading for Tanay in Rizal and passing through the area may have damaged the pipe. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
