DTI to ensure steady flow of goods in Ruby-hit areas

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is working to ensure a steady flow of goods in areas affected by Typhoon Ruby (international name: Hagupit), a Palace official said Sunday.

"Sec. Gregory Domingo has been coordinating with suppliers to restore the diminishing stock of necessities such as sardines, noodles, candles, and matches," deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a statement.

She said some manufacturers have pledged to enable faster roll-out of Diskwento Caravan, which offers basic goods at discounted prices.

The DTI will roll out the caravans "as soon as possible, whenever the weather permits," Valte said.

Typhoon Ruby, which made landfalls in Samar on Saturday night and Masbate on Sunday morning, is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility either on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. —Kathryn Mae Tubadeza/KBK, GMA News
