Fire bureau reminds malls, establishments on proper housekeeping

Wary of fires that may break out as the holidays draw closer, the Bureau of Fire Protection has appealed to malls and establishments to maintain proper housekeeping.

In Bicol, Legazpi City fire marshal Chief Inspector Damian Rejano said this will complement contingency plans if fires actually break out.

"Proper housekeeping din sa malls. And then contingency plan nila kung may sunog. Paano ba nila i-execute para madaling, kamukha ng mga mallgoers at tenants ng mall," he said, according to a report by GMA Bicol's Maila Aycocho.

The BFP in Legazpi City has been conducting fire safety audits in the area, visiting malls and checking their firefighting equipment and fire exits.

BFP teams also checked the department store and grocery sections.

The BFP is working to ensure fire safety especially as people are expected to crowd malls and shopping centers in the weeks leading to Christmas and New Year. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
