Banana-cue wars: Vendor throws boiling oil on rival’s face in Cebu
A banana-cue vendor disfigured the face of a former friend turned fierce rival by throwing boiling cooking oil at her in Cebu City Wednesday.
The incident stemmed not from a love triangle but from a business rivalry as the two were vendors of banana-cues, GMA Cebu's Nikko Sereno reported Thursday.
Jerame Panginahug, 25, suffered burns in the face, ears and feet after being hit by the boiling cooking oil thrown by Rhenalyn Cantiveros.
"Naging magkompetensya kami. Nagalit siya dahil nagtinda rin ako ng saging," Panginahug said.
While Cantiveros apologized to the victim, Panginahug said she would still pursue charges against her.
"Hindi ko intensyon na buhusan ko siya ng mantika. Nadala lang talaga ako sa galit ko at humihingi ako ng pasensya sa nagawa ko," Cantiveros said.
Investigation showed the two used to be close friends but Cantiveros got mad at Panginahug for deciding to run her own banana-cue business and become her business rival.
On Wednesday, Panginahug was heating cooking oil to prepare banana-cues when Cantiveros confronted her.
Cebu City Police Station 2 head Chief Inspector Wildemar Tiu said Cantiveros may face charges of serious physical injury, "considering may deformity at malubha talaga ang pagkasunog, visible talaga sa kanyang mukha." —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
