BFAR warns vs red tide in Milagros, Masbate
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on this week warned residents of Milagros town in Masbate against catching and eating shellfish due to the threat of red tide.
In a shellfish bulletin, the BFAR particularly warned fishermen in Irong-Irong Bay against such a threat, GMA Bicol's Avril Daja reported Friday.
According to the BFAR, shellfish in the area were positive for paralytic shellfish poison.
Meanwhile, the BFAR advised fishermen in nearby coastal areas in Milagros to properly clean fish, squid, and shrimp before eating.
However, the BFAR maintained the red tide threat will not affect the supply of shellfish in the Bicol region as there is enough catch from Sorsogon province. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
