Child drowns, another missing off La Union resort

A 10-year-old boy died while his eight-year-old friend remained missing after they drowned at a beach resort in La Union last weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard said Wednesday.

The boys drowned off Paradiso Beach Resort in Barangay Samara in Aringay town, the Coast Guard said on its social media account.

Citing initial information, it said Howard Wayah, 10, and Zoren Wagtingan, 8, went swimming at the resort without permission from their parents.

But the two encountered strong winds and waves. Howard was rescued and brought to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The Coast Guard's substation advised coastal barangays to be on the lookout for the boy and render necessary assistance. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
