After 2nd landfall, Seniang weakens into tropical depression


After making a second landfall over Anda town in Bohol, Tropical Cyclone Seniang (Jangmi) weakened into a tropical depression Monday night, even as 14 areas in Visayas and Mindanao remain under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1.
 
PAGASA said Seniang was estimated at 75 km southeast of Mactan, Cebu City as of 10 p.m., with maximum winds of 55 kph near the center.
 
It is forecast to move west-northwest at 11 kph and is expected to be 170 km west-northwest of Dumaguete City Tuesday evening.
 
By Wednesday evening, it is expected to be 85 km south-southeast of Puerto Princesa City. By Thursday evening it is expected to be 350 km southwest of Puerto Princesa City.

Seniang has an estimated rainfall of 7.5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within its 300-km diameter.
 
PAGASA reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas of areas under storm signal to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides.
 
The weather agency also reminded fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts not to venture out along the seaboards of northern and central Luzon and the eastern seaboard of southern Luzon, seaboards of Visayas and over the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao.

Two dead in Bukidnon, MisOr
 
Meanwhile, two people were reported to have died in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental because of the storm.
 
According to Northern Mindanao Regional Police spokesperson Supt. Gervacio Balmaceda, one person drowned in a flooded creek in the munipacility of Impasugong. The other casualty was from Binuangan. No details were given. 
 
In Bukidnon, 60 families were brought to four different barangay covered courts. 
 
The local government of Cagayan de Oro also declared the city under red alert and implemented forced evacuation in Tablon on Monday afternoon.
 
As of 6 p.m., 1,751 families or 6,793 individuals had been evacuated to Binuangan evacuation center. In Gingoog City, 25 families or 137 individuals were moved to Anakan National High School and nine families were evacuated to Daan Lungsod Elementary School. 
 
Caraga
 
The Caraga regional police spokesperson Supt. Romaldo Bayting also reported that there were nine people injured in the region as of Monday afternoon. 
 
Meanwhile, 5,656 families or 22,834 people were transferred to 150 evacuation centers. Forced evacuation has also been implemented in some areas. 
 
All flights and ship or boat trips going to and from Caraga have been cancelled. 
 
Dinagat Islands PDRRMC information officer Jane Mayola said that the province has already implemented forced evacuation.
