Davao del Norte town under state of calamity due to Seniang — PNA

Asuncion town in Davao del Norte province was placed under a state of calamity Tuesday due to the effects of Tropical Cyclone Seniang (Jangmi), state-run Philippines News Agency reported.

The PNA report said the town's officials made the declaration in the wake of floods due to the swelling of tributary rivers.

It said the flooding displaced families and destroyed rice farms in seven barangays including Barangay Camansa, Poblacion Kambayong, Buclad and Sagayin.

Also affected by Seniang in Davao del Norte were 38 families in New Corella.

The PNA report said water levels in Libuganon, Hijo, Tuganay and Nanaga rivers rose.

Earlier placed under a state of calamity due to Seniang were Bohol.

As of Wednesday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council confirmed at least 35 fatalities in Seniang's wake. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
