Coast Guard: Ship welder drowns in Cagayan
A ship's welder drowned after trying to swim in the Cagayan River - supposedly while drunk - last Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard said Thursday.
The Coast Guard identified the fatality as Romeo Decipulo of the M/V Vela 3 and a resident of Barangay Tallungan in Aparri in Cagayan province.
Citing information from the Northeastern Luzon district, the Coast Guard said Decipulo's remains were retrieved from the area Tuesday afternoon. Despite efforts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the rescue team failed to revive Decipulo.
Medical evacuation
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard said its Sual team managed to evacuate the ill wife of a chief engineer of M/V Sipang Express four nautical miles northeast off Sual, Pangasinan last Monday.
Evacuated from the vessel was Evelyn Godines, 59, who was reportedly suffering from dehydration but was conscious.
Mrs. Godines was brought to Jesus Nazarene General Hospital in Lingayen, Pangasinan. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
