Black Nazarene devotees in provinces hold own activities

They may not be able to take part in the Traslaction in Manila, but devotees of the Black Nazarene in the provinces showed their love for their patron in their own way.

In Bicol, devotees flocked to the Holy Cross Parish Church in Barangay Tabuco in Naga City to pay tribute to the image of the Blck Nazarene, GMA Bicol's Kaye Botastas reported.

One of the devotees, Yolanda Rull, has been going there yearly to ask for divine intervention for a stomach condition.

At least four Masses and a procession were scheduled for the day.

In Iloilo, devotees took part in a procession in Mandurriao in Iloilo City, some of them bringing their own small images of the patron, GMA Iloilo's Vangio Robles and Enrico Surita Jr. reported.

Some of the elderly devotees joined the procession despite having difficulty walking.

Carlito Malala said he joined the procession as a thanksgiving for a "second life" after having a stroke.

"Hindi ako makapaniwala dahil akala ko mamamatay na ako. Sa awa ng Mahal na Diyos, nabuhay ako," he said.

Another devotee, Jean Guillen, joined the Iloilo procession after failing to get to Quiapo Church in Manila.

The procession ended with a Mass at the Espousal of Our Lady Parish Church.

Also, an elderly devotee passed on her devotion to the Black Nazarene to her grandchildren.

"Dahil ang nanay ko ay relihiyosa talaga pati ang aking lola. Galing pa sa nanay niya. Relihiyoso talaga siya," said Mila Roberto, 74.

Roberto said her request to the Nazarene to have all her children finish their studies was granted.

"Wala naman akong hinihingi ngayon. Pinagdarasal ko lang naman noon noong malakas pa ako na mapagtapos ko sa pag-aaral ang aking mga anak. Nakapagtapos talaga sila," she said. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
