Dinuguan shabu: Man in Dagupan caught for smuggling drugs in food

A visitor to an inmate at the Dagupan City Jail in Pangasinan was arrested after he was caught with methamphetamine hydrochloride hidden inside a container of dinuguan.

The drugs were found in rice, dinuguan, coffee and toothpaste brought by Raymund Untalan, GMA Dagupan's Jasmine Gabriel reported Wednesday.

"[A] thorough inspection by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Dagupan [yielded shabu]... na-turn over na ito sa Philippine National Police," Senior Inspector Zaldy Tumagos of the Dagupan City police said.

Dinuguan is a Filipino dish of meat in a sauce of ingredients including pig blood.

An investigation showed the shabu was hidden in packaging tape and mixed in the dinuguan brought in by Untalan.

Also seized from the suspect was a piece of paper with the name of one of the inmates who had been linked to a drug-related case. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
