Village chief shot dead in Cavite

A village chief in Naic town in Cavite province was shot dead while on his way back from a town variety show shortly after midnight Monday. Cavite provincial police chief Sr. Supt. Fidel Posadas initially identified the victim Tuesday morning as Joselito Mutas, head of Sabang village in Naic town. "Maraming angulo ang tinitignan natin, hindi natin sinasantabi ang sa pulitika. Napakaraming anggulo ang tinitignan natin, may magandang lead (pero) ang turo hindi ito election-related incident (We're looking at many angles and we cannot discount politics as of this time. But the leads we have so far indicate it is not politics-related)," Posadas said in an interview on dzBB radio. He would not elaborate, but said they have started investigating some personalities and placed others in protective custody. Posadas described some of the potential witnesses as "natatakot (afraid for their lives)." Initial investigation showed the incident took place at about 1:45 a.m., as Mutas was going home from attending a local variety show, as the town was celebrating its foundation anniversary. As he was heading for the house of a friend, unidentified men blocked his path and fired at him. "Meron tayong iniimbestigahang mga tao. Ang iba nilagay namin sa isang ligtas na lugar sapagka't natatakot (We have started investigating some people. The others we have placed in protective custody because they feared for their lives)," Posadas said. - GMANews.TV
