Tacloban airport cleared for normal operations

Following an aircraft accident there last weekend, the Tacloban Airport was cleared for normal aircraft operations Tuesday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines issued a notice at 3:37 a.m. indicating the airport's status, radio dzBB reported.

Last Saturday, a private jet carrying some government officials figured in an accident at the runway, prompting the airport to limit runway operations.

Saturday's incident occurred shortly after a plane bearing Pope Francis took off and returned to Manila. The Pope had celebrated a Mass there earlier.

At the time of the mishap, the weather had been bad - with heavy rain and strong winds from Tropical Storm Amang - forcing the pope to cut short his visit to Leyte. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
