Baguio flower growers prepare for start of Panagbenga Sunday

Preparations in Baguio City peaked over the weekend for the start of this year's Panagbenga Festival on Sunday, Feb. 1.

Flower growers and landscape artists are working to ensure a successful opening of the yearly flower festival, GMA Dagupan reported Friday.

The cool weather is also a factor in attracting guests to the Panagbenga festival, the report said.

An article on the Panagbenga site said the term “Panagbenga” comes from a Kankanaey word meaning “season of blooming.”

Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc. organizes the Panagbenga Festival to boost Baguio and the Cordillera's tourism by showcasing events, exhibitions and activities "that promote the history, traditions and values of Baguio and the Cordilleras."

Sunday's activities include opening ceremonies and street dancing at the Panagbenga Park. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
