Fire razes 7 houses in Iloilo, short circuit eyed as cause

A fire believed caused by an electrical short circuit razed seven houses in a subdivision in Iloilo City on Wednesday.

 

No one was initially reported injured in the fire at Puerto Real Subdivision in Barangay Tabuc Suba in La Paz district, GMA Iloilo's Enrico Surita Jr. reported.

 

Residents helped firefighters put out the fire, which spread quickly as the houses were bunched closely together.

 

One resident, Erlita Binyas, lost not only her house but also her two vehicles.

 

"Paglabas ko ... hindi na ako makakaano, papasok pa sana ako para kumuha ng kagamitan. Grabe na yung usok... Hindi na ako makapasok sa bahay dahil grabe na yung usok. Tumakbo na lang ako palabas," said resident Joan Yanson.

 

Another resident, L.T., said they did not go back to save their belongings in hopes they could put out the fire early - but ended up with their belongings destroyed. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
